Sheila Minkah-Premo is a lawyer from Ghana in West Africa. She holds a law degree from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Masters in law (LL.M) from Georgetown University Law Centre, Washington D.C., United States of America. She is the Managing Consultant of Apex Lawconsult, a law firm in Accra that focuses on family law and land law. She is also a Social Justice expert and has undertaken a lot of consultancy work on women and children's’ rights issues for several national and international partners including multilaterals (like UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, World Bank) and bilaterals. She belongs to a number of women human rights organisations including LAWA (Ghana) Alumnae Incorporated (LAWA-Ghana, African Women Lawyers Association, Network for Womens’ Rights in Ghana among others. She has also been participating in the the ISLA project from the onset.

LAWA-Ghana has been working on a legislative advocacy project since 2000 to ensure that the property rights of women in Ghana is protected with the passage of the Property Rights of Spouses Bill in line with Article 22 of the Ghana Constitution, which calls for such a law. Even though a Bill they have been working on with others has gone to Parliament three times, it has not been passed into law. In the meantime she worked as a consultant on a project on Land Administration, which resulted in the passage of a Land Act in July 2020 which has provisions on the property rights of spouses. She will be sharing her experiences on these issues at the webinar on Thursday.
