Derrick Kizza is the Executive Director at Mental Health Uganda (MHU), a non-government organisation of people with a lived experience of mental health problems. MHU is the biggest membership organisation of people with mental health problems in Africa with over 20,000 members. For the last 16 years, he has been at the fore front of national, regional and global efforts to combat stigma and discrimination, promotion and protection of human rights and influencing policy and legislative development and reforms for integration of people with lived experience of mental health problems into society. He is also a great believer in lived experience leadership in finding sustainable solutions around mental health problems.
