Disability rights in Africa has not gained the momentum that it requires. In January 2018, the AU General Assembly adopted the Protocol to Disability Rights in Africa. Unfortunately, to date that protocol has not gained the requisite the ratification for it to be in force. This can be partly blamed by lack of disabled peoples organisations (DPOs) participating in the African Commission Sessions. The purpose of this panel is to discuss how DPOs can engage the African Commission. Importantly, this panel will discuss how DPOs can engage state parties for ratification of the protocol.
